Not recommended for individuals with Down syndrome (for extended periods, due to 5-HTP).
Saffron, in very high doses, can be emetic, produce uterine bleeding and be abortive (lethal dose at 12-20 grams).
Due to the presence of 5-HTP, do not combine with antidepressant medications, carbidopa, dextromethorphan, meperidine, pentazocine and tramadol.
In general, it may increase the side effects of medications that increase serotonin levels.
